Copyright and Internet Ethics for Education Media

On the eight week (7th November 2012), Mr. Azmi gives a lecture regarding the topic of copyright and internet ethics for education media. Within this topic I am able to know several ethics while using the internet. We cannot simply take everything for granted. It has its own law too.

Modeling and Simulation

On the seventh week (24th October 2012), we had learnt about modeling and simulation. Model is a representation of an object, a system, or an idea in some form other than that of the entity itself. Whereas, simulation is the operation which is a representation of a system. There are many advantages of modeling and simulation in the process of teaching and learning. This is because, through modeling and simulation, it will enhance the students motivation and we can make a prediction. Students will become motivated if they learn in a happy and fun way. They are able to explore an experiment in their own way. The students are able to pause and repeat the experiment according to their desire. We also can make prediction about certain experiment or situation by using this model and simulation.
Since, model and simulation can give many benefits in the process of teaching and learning, it is one of the way that will help to increase the student performance in our Malaysian schools. Thus, school management and teachers have to start applying the model and simulation in school. The teachers also can apply this simulation during their class. I am sure that the students will become more interested to learnt and enjoy it throughout the learning process.

Paint

During the laboratory session on 10th October 2012, I had learnt how to edit a picture by using paint. As we are all know, most of the laptop have this paint. So, everyone can use it because it is easy. Mr. Azmi teach us the paint by using an example of the picture of jackfruit. After that we used the picture of water lilies. We also used the button printscreen while copying the picture. As the results, we are able to get the desired picture of jackfruit and water lilies. We also can insert the text if we want to note any statement or information about the picture. After I had learnt how to use this paint, I applied this knowledge to my assignment as well.

Interactive Whiteboard (IWB)

On the fifth week (10th October 2012), we had a lecture on the topic of interactive whiteboard (IWB). Interactive whiteboard combines a dry erase whiteboard with an LCD projector and is usually mounted on a wall or floor stand. Powered by easy-to-use software, the whiteboard becomes a computer screen viewable by an entire classroom. The projector projects the content from the computer onto the surface of the board while the teacher controls the content either with a pointer or a touch of the hand instead of a keyboard and mouse. The combination of software with the projector results in much more than simply a projected image.
There are many advantages by using the interactive whiteboards. One of them is that they provide electronically all the familiar features of a traditional classroom blackboard or ordinary whiteboard. Besides that, this situation are able to replace the scenario of a large group crowding around a single computer. The interactive whiteboard allows a large group to sit and participate comfortably in a presentation. We are also can edit information directly during lessons and save changes or additions to the computer. It proved that interactive whiteboard able to give many benefits towards learning and teaching process in school and other educational institutions.

Create a Blog

On the fourth week (3rd October 2012), we were asked to create our own blog. We need to insert everything that we learnt in this course for the whole semester into this blog. At first, it is quite difficult for me to create and getting used to this blog. But, after some more time, I am becoming familiar with it and it is fun. We are free to write everything that were not only about this course, but also about our daily life as well. Actually this blog is considered as our assignment. I personally think that this kind of assignment is very good because the student are able to learn something new and to enhance their creative learning. I do feel that learning in a fun way is an effective learning.

Malaysian Smart School

On the third week (26th September 2012) of lecture, we had learnt about the Malaysian Smart School. In more details, En. Azmi gives lecture on the Smart School management, processes, scenarios, and the technology as enabler. In order to make a school smart, many facilities of ICT had to be used in their process of teaching and learning. Again all parties have to play their role to make sure that the efforts towards making all the school smart become reality.

Data Logging

We also learnt about data logging on week two (19th September 2012). Mr. Azmi had introduced about what is data logging and the use of data logging in our life. He had showed many examples about the application of data logging during class such as in the topic of fermentation and the bouncing sound. The important thing is that in data logging, there must be a sensor while carrying out the experiment. If we want to test the force, we need a force sensor. From this data logging, it is easy for us to observed the results. In data logging, we have to stick on the engage, empower, enhance and extension.
Again, after we had learnt this topic, we had been given as assignment on data logging. We were asked to find any topic about that we can apply this data logging. My group and I choose the topic of buoyant force. In this topic, the most important principle is Archimedes Principle. We had completed this task by following the steps of engage, empower, enhance, and extension. I am satisfied after I had understand the content in this data logging.

ICT in Science Education

On the second week (19th September 2012), Mr. Azmi give a lecture regarding the topic of learning about ICT in Science education. He had explained about how should Science teachers use ICT. In order to make sure that we understand more about this topic, he had given us an assignment about issues and challenges in integrating ICT in teaching and learning in our Malaysian Schools. We are given two weeks to get do this tasks and prepare for the presentation as well. One more thing is that, we have to use the problem based learning (PBL) in this assignment. At first, it seem difficult to us, but after getting more information about the topic, it became more easier.
From this assignment, I had realized that there are many issues and challenges that the teachers will faced in order to implement ICT in their teaching and learning process. One of them is teachers lack of ICT-related knowledge and lack of skills of using the ICT. So that, students, teachers, school management and parents have to play their role to make sure that ICT can be implemented in Malaysian School successfully. I personally agree that ICT can help to enhance the process of teaching and learning in  schools because through the use of ICT, the process of learning become more fun and attractive.

Interactive Whiteboard

Interactive Whiteboard
Although the first interactive whiteboard was released in 1991, only I the last several years have whiteboards become a must-have tool in classroom. New emphasis on developing 21st century skills for students, the requirement for educator proficiency in technology, and research documenting increased learning with the use of interactive whiteboards have spurred its adoption.
Fundamentally, an interactive whiteboard combines a dry erase whiteboard with an LCD projector and is usually mounted on a wall or floor stand.
Anything that can be done on a computer monitor, can be replicated on the interactive white board. A teacher can create engaging lessons that focus on one task such as matching activity where students use either their fingers or a pen to match items. Another teacher might integrate multiple items into a lesson plan such as websites, photos, and music that students can interact with, respond to verbally or even write comments on the board itself. Image size and placement can change with a simple touch to the screen. This technology makes the one-computer classroom a workable instructional model. Imagine taking a class on a photo safari to Africa complete with embedded videos, animal sounds and mapping software.
Research has repeatedly demonstrated that students learn better when they are fully engaged and that multisensory, hands-on learning is the best way to engage them. Interactive whiteboards facilitate multisensory learning whether it is a collaboration exercise for math problem solving or a Google Earth tour of the Amazon rainforest.
The classroom applications for using interactive whiteboards include multimedia lessons and presentations including audio and video. Second, collaborative problem solving. Third, showcasing student projects and presentations. Fourth, virtual field trips. Fifth, recorded lessons that can be used by substitute teachers. Lastly, documentation of student achievement.
The interactive whiteboard (IWB) are used in variety settings, including classrooms at all levels of education, in corporate board rooms and work groups, in training rooms for profesional sports coaching, in broadcasting studios and others. The uses for interactive whiteboard (IWB) may include several uses. First, running software that is loaded onto the connected PC, such as a web browsers or proprietary software used in the classroom. Second, capturing and saving notes written on a whiteboard to the connected PC. Third, capturing notes written on a graphics tablet connected to the whiteboard. Fourth, controlling the PC from the whiteboard using click and drag, markup which annotates a program or presentation.

Second Assignment of ICT

Again, this post is about assignment. This second assignment was given to us on the fourth week (3rd October 2012). This assignment is regarding the Smart School in Malaysia. We were asked to write an essay about Smart School initiatives focusing on the teaching learning component and the use of technology as enablers contained in the Smart School Concept. Besides, we have to provide an overview of the progress made so far and the challenges faced since the inception of Smart Schools in Malaysia.
We have to write an essay of about ten pages. For your information, most of the assignment given by En. Azmi have to be presented in front of the class during the laboratory session. The same thing goes to the first assignment as well.
And, for sure, I will not include the assignment within this post because there are special place for all the assignment within this whole semester. Wait and see, okay...=)

First Assignment of ICT

Hi everybody..
Actually on the second week (19th September 2012), we had been given the first assignment of ICT on Content Analysis PBL. Below is the question and the essay:

Question:

ICT application have become an important part of teaching and learning. The Ministry of Education has invested a huge effort in term of funding and training to equip teachers and students with ICT skills. In your opinion, what are the issues and challenges in integrating ICT in teaching and learning in our Malaysian Schools. Give your idea to this issues in not more than 500 words.

ISSUES AND CHALLENGES IN INTEGRATING ICT IN TEACHING AND LEARNING IN OUR MALAYSIAN SCHOOL

Introduction

The rapid growth and improvement in Information Communication Technology (ICT) has lead to the diffusion of technology in education. It is believed that ICT would bring many advantages to the students  if it is use under the right circumstances. Due to its belief that ICT can make a changes in education and learning, the Ministry plans to integrate ICT into education on a fundamental level, incorporating systems to facilitate management, information gathering, access, and various forms of communication. However, there are some issues and challenges in integrating ICT in teaching and learning in our Malaysian Schools.

Teachers

People still perceive the lack of ICT-related knowledge of teachers as a major obstacle to the realization of their ICT-related goals. Some kind of skills that teachers may need when integrating ICT in new student-centered learning approaches. The skills of ICT competency included three approaches such as technological literacy, knowledge deepening and knowledge creation. One of the solutions for this issue is the Ministry of Education had sent the teachers to attend the course to enhance their skills that related with using the ICT in the class.  The successful of integrating of ICT into the classroom depends on the ability of teachers to structure their learning environment in non-traditional ways, merging technology with new pedagogies.  This requires a different set of classroom management skills to be developed, together with innovative ways of using ICT to enhance learning.

Management In School

In my opinion, the biggest challenger in integrating ICT in teaching and learning in our Malaysian schools is weak management of ICT. The ICT infrastructure such building, computer hardware and software is well managed. In rural area the infrastructure are not enough even though The Ministry of Education has invested a huge effort. As the consequent, the teacher cannot enable used the ICT in teaching and learning. Other than that, the not proactive maintenance the network infrastructure cause the problem happen when the teacher used ICT equipment. The management must make sure technician always follow the schedule for the maintenance if not, the broken equipment continuously increases from time to time. This problem comes due to lack of expert technician especially in remote area.

Students

Students attitude toward the use of ICT play an important role in integrating ICT in teaching and learning in our Malaysian Schools. Attitude could influence the person on the use of ICT. Nowadays, most the ICT application use the English language as the content. Some students might feel uncomfortable with the new technologies especially students in rural area because of their weak proficiency in that language. This situation might discouraged them to use ICT tools so they feel not motivated. Hence, actions need to be taken to help the students to overcome their problems. Before the ICT can be successfully integrated in students language learning, teacher must at first changed the students’ perception and their attitude towards ICT. Teachers could instil students’ confidence level on ICT through encouragement of using the ICT tools and guide the students step by step on the way to use ICT meaningfully. Parents also should provide all the facilities to their children to access the internet at home.

Conclusion

Implementing academic computing is a long and expensive process. It may take many year for Malaysian Schools to be successful. Although funding is an important factor, many other factors must be taken into account before and during the implementation of academic computing initiatives. Thus, government should take appropriate ways to ensure that the vision 2020 can be achieve.

BLOG???

Assalamualaikum and good evening everybody!!!!

Today's entry is about BLOG. We are ask to do this blog during the SSI3013. SSI stand for Information and Communication Technology in Science. My lecturer for this course, En. Azmi want us to put everything inside this blog including our assignments as well. Honestly, this is the first time I am trying to do all this kind of thing. I have no idea on how to start writing this blog. I have to learn from A to Z on how to do blog. So, I am still in the process of learning.=)
